The 12-week clock
For the CES Professional Report, "12 weeks processing" does not start when you submit your application online. It starts only after every single required document has been physically received and reviewed by TruMerit/CGFNS.
Why this matters
Many internationally educated nurses assume the clock starts the moment they pay and hit submit. In reality, a file that is missing even one document — a transcript, a regulatory body verification, or a translation — sits in a pending queue and does not advance. The 12-week estimate resets every time a new document arrives and clears review.
When the clock actually starts
- 1You submit the online application and pay the fee.
- 2Your nursing school sends transcripts directly to TruMerit (you cannot send these yourself).
- 3Your home-country regulatory body sends a verification of your license/registration directly to TruMerit.
- 4All translations of non-English documents are received and accepted.
- 5Only now — when TruMerit has confirmed every document is in hand and approved — does the 12-week evaluation clock start.
Common traps
- ⚠️Submitting before chasing your school for transcripts — the documents from your school take the longest to arrive, so request them on the day you apply.
- ⚠️Assuming TruMerit will contact you when something is missing — log in and check your file status regularly rather than waiting for an email.
- ⚠️Forgetting that the completed report is only valid for 365 days — if your application to Texas is delayed past that, you re-pay and restart.
Practical timeline
| Stage | Typical wait |
|---|---|
| School sends transcripts | 2–8 weeks (varies widely by country) |
| Regulatory body sends verification | 2–6 weeks |
| TruMerit review & approval of documents | 1–2 weeks after receipt |
| CES evaluation (clock starts here) | ~12 weeks |
Total from application to report: expect 4–6 months in typical cases. Start the document-gathering process the same week you apply.
While you wait, this is the perfect window to start preparing:
